Tuna Pasta Bake

Wholemeal pasta, tuna and vegetables are baked in a rich tomato sauce and topped with a sprinkle of cheese until golden. A familiar family favourite that's easy to prepare and full of comforting flavours - a great choice for an evening with the family or friends.

  • 400 g dried wholewheat small pasta shapes of your choice
  • 100 g baby spinach, rinsed, patted dry
  • 2 x 160g cans tuna in water, drained and flaked
  • 250 g frozen or canned sweetcorn (drained weight)
  • 1 x 400 g can haricot beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 x 500 ml jar Italian tomato pasta sauce
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 100 g 10% fat mozzarella cheese, grated or cut into small pieces
  • 75 g wholemeal breadcrumbs

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C / 180° Fan / Gas 6.
  2. Parboil the pasta. Cook the pasta for 3–4 minutes less than the pack instructions. Drain well and return to the pan.
  3. The pasta will finish cooking in the oven.
  4. The tray bake
    Add the spinach to the pasta and stir until just wilted.. Add the tuna, sweetcorn, haricot beans, tomato sauce and a little freshly ground black pepper. Transfer to a large ovenproof dish.
  5. Mix together the mozzarella and breadcrumbs, then scatter evenly over the pasta mixture.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until piping hot and golden on top.

SMART notes & tips

  • Got some broccoli or peas to use up? Stir them through before baking.
  • If you like, cannellini or butter beans can be added to increase fibre.
